Social interaction in the 21’st century
November 21, 2009
Today’s social-media-madness is on the edge of interfere in every peoples private life. If it isn’t Facebook it’s Twitter, Google or MySpace. Nothing interests people more than other people and through mega-social networking sites like these, people might feel obligated to update their status, thoughts and pictures, which can be a negative factor to the professional reputation.
“What is a friend?” is asked in the article “Facebook dumbing friendships down?” The answer is hard to think of when you should be “friends” with everyone these days. The author Neil Seeman discusses the fragile relationship between a doctor and his patient online.
I don’t understand why people might find it rude to deny certain casual friendships. Young people today are friends on the network even if they only met once and probably will they never meet again. Where does this “friend-hysteria” come from? Why do people think it’s so important to have 800 casual friends on Facebook instead of 100 close friends?
Google is not only a search engine anymore. You can Google your friends, your date and even your teacher by curiosity, and information can appear such as blogs, videos, webpage’s, interviews etc. Using social media is a great way to promote information about companies, products, people and services. But has it gone too far? In the article “Digital PR strategies: Using…” they talk about the significant opportunities the social media gives marketers. “It can have a big influence on the online brand visibility and reputation”.
Consumers like it easy. Companies in the social media environment probably get more costumers and become more popular than others which are positive aspects of their business. One negative factor is that what’s posted on Google isn’t previewed. Inappropriate things which can harm a reputation can get published and stays there like a permanent footprint.
I ask myself how much privacy every human being will have in the future. If the hysteria we experience today keeps on going like it does, then probably not much. We don’t know how the future will turn out to be. We can only wait and see.

FILE SHARING AND COPYRIGHT
November 11, 2009
File sharing is a big question today, all over the world. Personally I can’t pick side. I can see both pros and cons. It gives both positive and negative economic effects.
Is it wrong or right? Should it be legal or illegal?
In the movie Good copy, Bad copy they discuss file sharing and the new cultural sides of making innovative music from original music.
Is it stealing, or is it good for our music-culture?
I agree with some guys in the movie saying you should be able to create new music and mix songs, without it being illegal. For example, someone wants to make a remix of one of Brittney Spears songs, it shouldn’t be a problem. Some people will like her original song and some house fanatics will be happy to hear a new version of their kind of music.
The majority of the money artists earn comes from tours etc. and the fact that they earn less millions because of file sharing won’t stop the downloaders.
No one asks for your identity or money when downloading. Of course, if movies, music and TV-shows are available for free, people will download. They would be stupid not to. Piratebay thinks it’s a human right to download. I don’t fully agree.
I feel sorry for them, who are making money out of the products, but in the same time, many of them earn more on one movie, one season of their TV-show or song album, than I ever will. Selfish?
Several people, like me, and artists are in favour of the downloading of small, unknown bands. People find them on the Internet and start to like them. This makes small bands more famous and it’s a good way for them to get out on the market.
Maybe we download a lot in Sweden because of the non frightening legal system here. When piratebay got caught some people stopped download, but many didn’t. People say that the risk of getting caught is very small and that they don’t care. Should they?
You wouldn’t steal a car is quoted in a Swedish commercial. I wouldn’t compare file sharing to stealing a car because the artist is still earning money in other ways, but, I don’t want a person to steal my things. That’s why I think it feels wrong to download. BUT, I join friends downloads. Am I Pro then?
Can’t decide.
Triumph of the nerds – Accidental success
November 1, 2009
An incredible story about how a group of friends experimented and tried to impress each other with the result of a revolution that changed our future.
These nerds of the 1970 have made it possible for us to have a personal computer at home. It is impossible to understand how someone can develop ideas just for fun that have such an effect on modern society. The youth of today would not be the same without the smart men of the 70’s like Bill Gates, Paul Allen, and Steve Jobs. They helped us digitalize.
Today, we can do almost everything with the help of our computers and we depend on them more and more. We have Internet banks, stores and dating agencies. We book travels, search information, watch TV, download movies and basically do all our communication online.
Who would have thought that these nerds would become successful billionaires?
The last line in the documentary is “See you in ten years”. I can only imagine what it must be like for my parents and grandparents having had to change their lifestyles throughout those years. Today’s generation has grown up with modern technology and there is not much that surprises them anymore.
How will the next ten years turn out?
